“Mauritius was made first, and then heaven, and that heaven was copied after Mauritius”

– Mark Twain

Humans of Moris will shed light on the cultural diversity of Mauritius. A look at the country through Mauritian faces, and the stories behind them.

Meet the Humans of Moris.

About Us

This is about two friends who decided to embark on this journey of writing extraordinary human stories. All began a few years ago, on a Sunday morning, along Pereybere beach – after a night out among friends. We were randomly discussing about Humans of New York, the beauty of the project and how it was impacting society in general. We were so amazed by the concept that we wondered as to how would that be if we had our very own Humans Community for our island.

Apprehensions were there for sure. Several questions were arising. Where to begin, how to proceed and whether such a concept would ever work in Mauritius?

We followed our gut feeling and within a week everything was set up. We chose the name Humans of Moris, moris meaning Mauritius in creole language. We then went on to create our Facebook page and went on the roads to try to grab our first story. We secured one, worked on it and posted the story that very same night. We can still vividly remember our excitement upon getting our very first like and comment.

After that, the page kept growing and as of now we have more than ten thousand followers with engagements reaching 107,196, 11,247 likes, 1907 comments and 1088 shares.

We also founded in 2020, the Humans of (Moris) Foundation which is there to cater for the needs of vulnerable children of Mauritius.

Why did we start Humans of Moris?

We are firm believers that every human has one or many stories to share. These stories could be happy, sad, failure, success stories but we are of the view that any story can inspire a particular human and help him/her to feel better and motivated to face the challenges of life.

I love connecting with people who have been through the fire and come out stronger and wiser. Using their experiences to inspire and empower others. Those are my people.

Humans of Moris

It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education

Nelson Mandela

The charitable purpose of the Foundation is to stand as a pillar for underprivileged children within Mauritius. The main activities of the Foundation are:

The advancement of education of children

The relief of poverty of children

Cater for healthcare needs of vulnerable children.

The founders have always been really keen in philanthropy. As such, through this foundation, they have as a mission to improve lives by helping children.

We believe that donating money is not the only way to help. There are many different contributions one can make to help those in need of assistance. Besides money, you could simply just give your time by volunteering.

Through Humans of (Moris) Foundation, we plan to do workshops, host talks and just spend time with children to help understand them better, prepare them for the future and also most importantly, shield them from drugs and other scourges of society.

The core values of the foundation empower us to give an unwavering commitment to our beneficiaries. They are:

Gratitude

Kindness

Belief

Love

Every little bit helps the good cause of Humans of Moris.

We will love to answer your volunteering questions & others.
