– Mark Twain
This is about two friends who decided to embark on this journey of writing extraordinary human stories. All began a few years ago, on a Sunday morning, along Pereybere beach – after a night out among friends. We were randomly discussing about Humans of New York, the beauty of the project and how it was impacting society in general. We were so amazed by the concept that we wondered as to how would that be if we had our very own Humans Community for our island.
Apprehensions were there for sure. Several questions were arising. Where to begin, how to proceed and whether such a concept would ever work in Mauritius?
We followed our gut feeling and within a week everything was set up. We chose the name Humans of Moris, moris meaning Mauritius in creole language. We then went on to create our Facebook page and went on the roads to try to grab our first story. We secured one, worked on it and posted the story that very same night. We can still vividly remember our excitement upon getting our very first like and comment.
After that, the page kept growing and as of now we have more than ten thousand followers with engagements reaching 107,196, 11,247 likes, 1907 comments and 1088 shares.
We also founded in 2020, the Humans of (Moris) Foundation which is there to cater for the needs of vulnerable children of Mauritius.
Why did we start Humans of Moris?
We are firm believers that every human has one or many stories to share. These stories could be happy, sad, failure, success stories but we are of the view that any story can inspire a particular human and help him/her to feel better and motivated to face the challenges of life.
”I love connecting with people who have been through the fire and come out stronger and wiser. Using their experiences to inspire and empower others. Those are my people.
Steve Maraboli
Many of the stories has been a blessing to people. We filmed the impact of Humans of Moris stories are having on people, either from complete strangers or the authors.
”It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education
Nelson Mandela
