“I have rescued more than 50 people from drowning so far.  I have been trained in countries like England, Australia, South Africa and Uganda, to become an “International Life Saving Expert”.  Ever since I returned to Mauritius, my battle has been to reduce the number of drowning victims to the minimum I can.

Our island is surrounded by sea, but would you believe it if I tell you that around 85% of our population doesn’t know how to swim?  People don’t realise the dangers of the sea and that’s why they often fall prey to the ocean.  Learning how to swim is a must according to me and people should learn to master this fantastic exercise, which swimming is.

Heading in that direction, I founded the “Surf Life Saving Association”, which is always there to ensure that everything is going on smoothly along the beaches of Mauritius.

We have also been visiting schools, clubs and even houses to explain the importance of swimming and the precautions that need to be taken.  We have been working a lot in training people about self-survival in the sea.

Many people wouldn’t know that drowning is the 3rd highest cause of death in Mauritius.  Most of us have lost people we know from drowning, haven’t we?   This should stop and this is my personal battle.

I just hope that Mauritians, especially parents would understand that knowing how to swim is such an advantage to someone….someone knowing how to swim could either save himself someday, or better, save someone else’s life and believe me that is the most beautiful feeling ever!”
