“After having graduated in Business Studies in Australia, I returned to Mauritius with big aspirations. The question of staying there to work never crossed my mind as I never wanted to be too far away from my family.

The job hunting process soon started once I reached my homeland. Surprisingly, it was not long before I secured a stable office job matching my qualifications. Initially, I was really enthusiastic and had some long term goals concerning my new job. However, after some time, the passion started to fade. I realised that I was not living the life I always wanted. I was not waking up with the same level of excitement that one should have when going to work.

I thought a lot about all these and soon, I resigned from my position. I took a break as I needed some time for myself. Then one day, an idea came to my mind suddenly and I decided to open a nursery. Although I was very fond of kids, the step was not only daring, but also a tough one as I was a graduate in a very different field. However, I did not think about all that and I listened to my heart only. I got a precious support from my dad who renovated an old unused building in our yard to make it fit for my new venture. Meanwhile, I embarked on an ‘Early Childhood Education’ course.

You can never do full justice to a job if you aren’t content and enthusiastic yourself.

Within one year, everything was ready. I started with only two babies. During the first two years, I didn’t pay myself any salary. I instead took the money, and re-invested everything. The nursery gradually expanded. In addition to that, I also opened a pre-primary school some time later.

Five years have elapsed and a lot has changed. The school now comprises six classrooms. I even have a few staffs working with me and I do not intend to stop where I am. My team is working on the construction of another building so that more pupils can benefit from our dedicated service.

My message to the youths of this country is to choose something that genuinely makes you feel happy and satisfied. You can never do full justice to a job if you aren’t content and enthusiastic yourself. I listened to my heart and today, I am proud I did that.”
